Official Graduating Mark

Officially graduated with an Upper Second classification. I am over the moon.

Degree classification is as follows:

First 69.5% +

Upper Second 59.5% - 69.4%

Lower Second 49.5% - 59.4%

Third 39.5% - 49.4%

The only thing I don’t think fair in this grade boundary is that someone who get’s 59.5% will get the same grade and reward as someone with 69.4%…I don’t think that’s fair. Upper Second and Lower Second should be split into two, for example Upper 2:1 and Lower 2:1, Upper 2:2 and Lower 2:2.

No matter, as far as I know all of my friends have a 2:1 and that’s all that matters :) Happy for them all!

Future of Doublespeak

So, in my previous post I explained the merge of my two theatre companies. Now I’ll explain what it is that I plan on doing next.

I have been in contact with the Head of Drama Studies at my old college and am in early talks to arrange use of their facilities and students to further A State of Silence. I want to bring in a writer to help me identify the themes and make them clearer and to develop a thorough through-line to the story.

With the help of some funding we will then tour this production (whatever it turns out to be), hopefully to the Brighton and Camden Fringe festivals in 2013. I would also like to return to The Rondo in Bath as this is where the project started.

Merging: Doublespeak / Pretty Ugly

I have decided to merge my two theatre companies together this summer! Pretty Ugly Theatre Co. will join forces with my new company Doublespeak.

I have decided to take this action as there is no need to have two companies at this point in my career. As I have matured throughout my three years at University I have come to understand that every company needs its own identity. Pretty Ugly was my first venture onto the scene as a director / producer, however the range of theatre being created by the company varies massively. Our first production, To Be Blind… was a very dark, intense piece of promenade theatre, whereas The Clinic for Depressed and Failing Heroes and Villains was a hilarious comedy. Two opposite ends of the spectrum.

Under Doublespeak I directed A State of Silence which was an expressionist, physical production designed to provoke the minds of its audience into asking questions about their own lives; this is what I want to do on a more regular basis.

Doublespeak is the famous concept created by the British writer George Orwell and was done so to aid his warnings in the novel Nineteen Eighty-Four. By keeping this in the name of the company everyone will automatically associate us with Orwell, hence creating an identity.

Doublespeak Theatre Co. breaks down the boundaries between naturalism and expressionism to combine the two worlds. Our work is complex yet accessible and we communicate our ideas and feelings through a physical, imaginative and thought-provoking style.

University Finished!

Finally I have received my last module result for University; 71% overall!

However, I’ve just missed out on a First Class Degree by a small percentage, so in July I will graduate with a 2:1 Dgree (which is still good, but just a killer knowing that a First was less than 2% away!

So, here I am, Adam James Green, BA. :D
